Care Instructions for Pink Guava Tree (Psidium guajava)
The Pink Guava Tree is a tropical fruit tree that's surprisingly easy to grow and care for, especially in warm climates. With the right conditions, it will reward you with sweet, fragrant fruit and lush, evergreen foliage.
Light:
Loves full sun. Be sure to plant it in a spot that gets at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Watering:
Water deeply and regularly, especially while the tree is getting established. Once mature, guava trees become more drought-tolerant but will produce the best fruit with consistent moisture.
Soil:
Well-draining soil is key. Guavas aren’t picky, but they’ll do best in a slightly acidic to neutral pH (around 5 to 7). Enriching the soil with compost or organic matter helps promote healthy growth.
Fertilizer:
Feed 3 to 4 times per year with a balanced fertilizer. Young trees benefit from extra nitrogen to support leafy growth, while older trees do well with a fruit tree blend.
Pruning:
Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove dead or crossing branches. Guavas can also be pruned to stay compact if growing in containers.
Cold Tolerance:
Best suited for USDA Zones 9–11. Can handle brief light frosts but should be protected or brought inside in colder climates.
